Statement of Problem

Will different fertilizer placements at seeding affect yield? With this in mind we would like to combine 2*2 and in row fertilizer placement. KSU has looked at both 2*2 and in row placement in separate studies but we would like to combine both to see what effect this would have on yield.

Project Objectives

To determine if there is a cumulative yield and economic effect of combining the two fertilizer placement strategy. KSU has done both 2*2 and in row studies but not both together in notill and we feel there will be both a yield and a economic advantage to combining both fertilizer placement strategies.

Methodology

Will use site mate software with GPS to track where fertility changes are made. Would plan to sample- fertilizer in row with no fertilizer 2*2, fertilizer in row with 2*2 fertilizer, fertilizer 2*2 and none in row. . The check in each of these would be no fertilizer. Also we would like to look at the fertilizer in row placement with seed and also fertilizer dribbled on surface above the seed. We would like to also look at different three different fertilizer rates in the 2*2 and in row study. They would be no fertilizer, rate that soil test determined and 2 times the 2nd rate.

Expected outcome / Benefit to KARA
We expect to see a yield and economic advantage to 2*2 and in row fertility placement over doing only a 2*2 or in row placement. This advantage would offset the extra time and equipment needed at planting. Also show that the GPS tracking maps of planting and harvest can be used in place of weigh wagons to ground truth these variables.
